Global Quality Education Standard Set for Major Update

This week, an important step forward was taken in the field of education quality. A widely used international standard that helps educational institutions improve their management systems and student satisfaction is being updated. This revision is expected to shape how quality is defined and measured in schools, training centres, colleges, and universities around the world.

The current version of the educational management standard was introduced several years ago and has helped institutions implement effective, learner-focused education systems. It is based on the principles of inclusiveness, accessibility, transparency, and continuous improvement. Now, the newly updated edition aims to respond to today’s educational challenges and future needs.

Why This Update Is Important

Today’s education landscape is rapidly changing. The rise of online learning, use of artificial intelligence, need for greater inclusiveness, and focus on student outcomes require fresh approaches. This is exactly what the revised standard is designed to address.

Key goals of the updated version include:

  • Making sure education providers focus more on learners' needs and learning results.

  • Improving planning processes and performance tracking.

  • Promoting inclusive access to quality education.

  • Ensuring educational services are delivered consistently and transparently.

  • Encouraging continuous improvement based on feedback from learners and stakeholders.

The revised standard was developed through global collaboration between experts in quality assurance, education, and training. It is suitable for all types of learning providers—formal, non-formal, and informal. Whether it’s a small language training centre or a large university, the new framework can be adapted to improve internal operations.

What Will Change?

Several new features are expected in the revised version:

  • Stronger emphasis on digital learning environments.

  • Clearer guidance for handling risk and change.

  • Additional focus on ethics and sustainability.

  • Expanded recommendations for managing learner data and privacy.

  • Better alignment with modern accreditation and recognition practices.

This means educational institutions will have a more flexible and useful tool to help ensure quality across all aspects of their teaching and management.

Impact on Learning Providers

Many schools and institutions already use international standards to demonstrate their commitment to quality and to gain recognition at national or global levels. With the new version, those already certified under the current framework will need to transition within a set timeline, expected to be announced once the new version is officially published.

Institutions will benefit from:

  • Improved educational outcomes through better quality planning and delivery.

  • Enhanced reputation and trust among students, parents, and employers.

  • A solid foundation for local or international accreditation processes.

  • Access to tools for better internal evaluation and external communication.

Workshops and guidance sessions will be organized globally to support this transition. Educational quality consultants and audit professionals are also preparing updated checklists and training programs to support institutions during the implementation.

Looking Ahead

The final publication of the updated standard is expected within the next few weeks. After that, institutions will have a transition period—usually two to three years—to move from the current to the new version. During this time, education providers are encouraged to:

  • Conduct internal reviews.

  • Identify gaps in their current systems.

  • Update staff training materials.

  • Adjust their policies and procedures to meet the new criteria.

The education sector has always been a key driver of positive social change. By adopting and applying recognized quality standards, education providers not only improve their own services—they also help raise the level of education worldwide.
